Irish musicians from around the country will gather in
Houston to celebrate the release of Irish flute player
Turlach Boylans debut album, The Tidy Cottage,
a welcome addition to the annals of traditional music.
The measured pace and infectious rhythm that permeate
this recording convey the joy that Irish music brings to
both the performer and the listener.
The album features musicians from both Ireland and the
United States. Turlach is joined by his sister Sheila on
fiddle, brother Ruairi on an exceptional double flute
track, and such Irish music luminaries as Colleen Donahue
of Tir na nOg; Gerry OBeirne, formerly of Patrick
Street and The Sharon Shannon Band; and
Dave Peters, the only three-time U.S. National mandolin
champion.
Turlachs music has a graceful, relaxed style,
buoyed by an insistent rhythm. After several years spent
learning various instruments at his home in County Derry,
Ireland, Turlach learned to play flute as a teenager from
the renowned County Antrim master John Kennedy. On the
album, you will hear the same lilt and love for the music
passed on in those lessons.
The Tidy Cottage CDs will be available for
purchase at the release party, and musicians will perform
some tracks from the album.
